At New Liberty, partnering with families is of the utmost importance to us. True family engagement is more than just getting families to come to events at our school, it’s about forging meaningful two-way conversations, having families provide input on our planning and policies, and taking the time to really learn about our students’ communities.
We do this through positive family home visits, student-led conferences, open houses, our School Site Council, and regular two-way communication.
Families receive biweekly progress reports on their students from advisors and are invited for welcoming meetings with the principal and advisors.
This year we will again hold a more formal Open House early in the fall for family members to get to know more about the school and meet with their young person’s teachers. Teachers will also share information on what they are teaching and families will have an opportunity to experience what their young person’s classes are like. We will also run student-led conferences at two points during the year– late fall and early spring. This is where students will share what they are working on and their progress with their families. Families will also have an opportunity to learn more about our unique grading system–Competency-Based Education–and our ILP (Individualized Learning Plan).
