Christy Uhrowczik

Health & Wellness Teacher

Christy is both a Health & Wellness Teacher and School Counselor at New Liberty, and is in her 3rd year in Salem Public Schools, her first at our school. A caring and skilled school professional with 12 years of experience in NY and MA schools, she utilizes her strengths and experience in the areas of physical and mental health, psychology, and communication to deliver wellness support to students. 

Having worked in a variety of settings including high school in NY, elementary age students in Everett, MA, as well as early education age students in Salem, Christy was drawn to New Liberty by its unique strengths and perspectives and also by her desire for meaningful work with students. The opportunity to contribute to students’ understanding of the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and emotional health is a fulfillment of Christy’s focus as well as seeing them utilize this knowledge. Christy grew up in California, with parents who emigrated from South America, spoke Spanish as her first language, and feels a connection to kids and teens growing up with the diverse challenges of today.

Christy attended community college for two years before transferring to the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with a BA in Communication Studies. She went on to earn her MS in School Counseling from Mercy University in NY. Christy is honored to join the NLIS team and looks forward to working with New Liberty students and their families.

When not working, Christy, a former runner and firm believer in the interrelated power of physical and mental health, can be found hiking, biking, walking her dogs, Babe and Muddy, enjoying the nature and beauty of the North Shore, attending her family’s sports matches, reading, and in the winter, enjoying a competitive game of scrabble, ping pong, and the occasional Netflix binge.

Christy has two daughters, one in college, and who just graduated from art school and is now launched and happily working in NY.
