New Liberty Innovation Schools Symposium Night – Feb 2022

Posted on: March 4, 2022

Symposium Month was a four-week, experiential-learning program for NLIS students, which ran from January 23-February 18. This year’s Symposium incorporated the major elements of Service Learning, centered around the topic of racism. Students had to work with an outside partner and come up with a solution for the central problem they studied.

Students worked on one of three projects related to racism, Say Their Names, Racism in Media, and “You Make Me Sick” which focused on racism as a systemic public health crisis. all day with two co-teachers. Symposium month gave our students an opportunity to focus intently on these important topics of interest to them both inside and outside of the school.

Over the course of the month, our NLIS students made new connections with each other and took on new challenges, such as presenting to middle school students, running a mock trial, and connecting with a local activism group to develop a new, youth-led initiative.
